Naphthalene Balls

White solid form-based naphthalene balls are popular moth repellants that protect fabrics or garments against fiber-feeding insects.  These are also useful to suppress odor in wet areas like restrooms and toilets for their strong and long-lasting smell. As per their chemical characteristics, these balls contain aromatic molecules of two conjoined benzene functional groups. These balls are soluble in organic solvents, although they remain insoluble in water. Coal tar is the source of commercial naphthalene balls. After the distillation of naphthalene crystals from coal tar, these go through a sulfuric acid-based treatment process for their purification.
